For this project, it was to update a skating rink in Norman, OK. Starting with the Happy Birthday wall,
the goal was to create a fresh new look, that would be enjoyable by all ages and genders.

Original Wall

Starting with how the word Happy Birthday would appear. Playing with shape, dimension, and flow. Wanting to have a fun display type that would grab peoples attention.

Eventually coming to the decision to incorporate the skating rinks name into the Happy Birthday words. Star Skate, being the name, and the Happy Birthday wall being the largest wall and first thing you see when walking in. The goal was to substitute a star and skate into the words while still being able to read the words.

The final word mark highlights the name and brand colors of Star Skate, by using scale and color change

Playing with different shapes and patterns to create a fun an playful wall.

Deciding to bring the shapes back to represent skating. Taking a wheel and breaking it down into
all the different shapes it creates. This became the inspiration for the rest of the wall. Being an established business the color palette was limited to colors already used on their other walls. Blend those colors together
for the wall graphic to create a fun and gender neutral design.

Party Room

The party rooms are separate from the main area of the building, allowing for private parties. Therefore, the design in here went in a different direction. The idea was to emphasis state landmarks and animals to create
a fun, informational and unisex space.

The Lobby &
Front Counter
Walking into the lobby it was important to make it know you have just entered a skating rink!
The rest of the design is to introduce people to the themes they will be seeing around the rink.

For the Glow wall, the goal was to cover the majority of the wall in a fun way to inspire the skaters to stop and take selfies! For this, the idea was to create overlapping shapes that would cause the shifting of color. As if you were mixing two colors of paint together to create another color.
Glow Wall

Unfortunately due to covid 19, this skating rink has closed. The owners hope one day they will open their doors.
I wish them the best and hope one day their doors will open and I'll be invited back to finish the walls.
